HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-10-30 - AGENDA REPORTS - VIDEO DETECTION CONTR (2)Agenda Item: CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: Andrew Yi DATE: October 30, 2007 0 SUBJECT: VIDEO DETECTION REPLACEMENT PROGRAM FOR TRAFFIC SIGNALS - AWARD CONTRACT DEPARTMENT: Public Works RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council authorize the renewal of the purchase contract with Iteris Inc., and approve the order of an additional video detection equipment at the original contract price in an amount not to exceed $135,313. 2. Approve the budget transfer of $75,313 from Account No. 14402-5161.001 to Account No. 10005354-5161.001. 3. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND This project is intended to replace existing video detection systems that have surpassed their service -life expectancies. The existing video detection systems to be replaced are based on older technology and do not detect vehicles properly, causing delays for motorists. This is the second phase of the multiphase program to replace the remaining existing video detection systems that are in need of replacement. During the recent Interstate 5 closure, this video technology assisted staff tremendously to monitor and manage the freeway detour traffic. With the help of this technology, congestion at City intersections and roadways was minimized. The following intersections will be refurbished with the new video detection system: 1. Valencia Boulevard and Mall Entrance 2. Seco Canyon Road and Copper Hill Drive 3. McBean Parkway and Decoro Drive Q�p�ONI[�D 4. Via Princessa and Oakridge Drive 5. Soledad Canyon Road and Ruether Avenue 6. Dickason Drive and Smythe Drive 7. Copper Hill Drive and Kelly Johnson Drive / Smythe Drive 8. Sierra Highway and Alta Vista Drive 9. Golden Valley Road and Green Mountain 10. Golden Valley Road and Highland Drive In April of 2007, Public Works conducted a bid for video detection equipment and the bids were opened on May 8, 2007. At the June 12, 2007 City Council meeting, the City Council awarded the contract for video detection equipment to Iteris Inc. The bid solicitation includes a provision for renewal of the contract and pricing, which staff is recommending at this time. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The requested transfer of funds from Account No. 14402-5161.001 to Account No. I0005354-5161.001 will adequately provide for the purchase of the equipment. Sufficient funds exist in Account No. 14402-5161.001 for the requested transfer.
