BACKGROUND
This project is intended to replace existing video detection systems that have surpassed their
service -life expectancies. The existing video detection systems to be replaced are based on older
technology and do not detect vehicles properly, causing delays for motorists. This is the second
phase of the multiphase program to replace the remaining existing video detection systems that
are in need of replacement. During the recent Interstate 5 closure, this video technology assisted
staff tremendously to monitor and manage the freeway detour traffic. With the help of this
technology, congestion at City intersections and roadways was minimized.
The following intersections will be refurbished with the new video detection system:
1. Valencia Boulevard and Mall Entrance
2. Seco Canyon Road and Copper Hill Drive
3. McBean Parkway and Decoro Drive
QpONI[D
4. Via Princessa and Oakridge Drive
5. Soledad Canyon Road and Ruether Avenue
6. Dickason Drive and Smythe Drive
7. Copper Hill Drive and Kelly Johnson Drive / Smythe Drive
8. Sierra Highway and Alta Vista Drive
9. Golden Valley Road and Green Mountain
10. Golden Valley Road and Highland Drive
In April of 2007, Public Works conducted a bid for video detection equipment and the bids were
opened on May 8, 2007. At the June 12, 2007 City Council meeting, the City Council awarded
the contract for video detection equipment to Iteris Inc. The bid solicitation includes a provision
for renewal of the contract and pricing, which staff is recommending at this time.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The requested transfer of funds from Account No. 14402-5161.001 to Account No.
I0005354-5161.001 will adequately provide for the purchase of the equipment. Sufficient funds
