All Councilmembers were present with the exception of Mayor Pro Tem
Kellar
All Commissioners were present with the exception of Commissioner
Ostrom.
All Commissioners were present.
Commissioner Redd led the flag salute.
ITEM 1 PRESENTATION FROM LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S
DEPARTMENT — Ken Pulskamp, City Manager, introduced the item and Captain
Anthony La Berge who gave a PowerPoint presentation and an overview of Sheriff
Department services.
Council / Planning Commission / Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
Commission questions, concerns and comments included appreciation for the work
of the Sheriff Department; addressing the pockets of crime outside the City borders;
including information on current emergency situations on the website; the
possibility of a sub station in the Canyon Country area; acknowledgement of
volunteers and reserve deputies; the possibility of linking the Sheriff Department
website to the Community Services Division web page on the City's website; the
question of training for Neighborhood Watch Program being specific to each
neighborhood; conducting phone notification trainings specific to the Senior
Center; how much crime is home based as opposed to coming in from outside of the
area; how much graffiti is taggers, and how much is gang related; what needs to be
done in order to maintain a safe city status; what can be done to target ninth and
tenth grade students to circumvent drug use; the huge problems surrounding the
Jakes Way area; how can traffic issues be mitigated for the Amgen Tour; and going
above and beyond to advertise the Neighborhood Watch Program.
