City Council accept the City of Santa Clarita's designation as a Level 2 Communities for Healthy Kids (CHK) community by the Institute for Local Government. 2. Accept CHK Grant in the amount of $6,100. 3. Increase estimated revenue in Account 259-4621.001 by $6,100 in Fiscal Year 2007-08. 4. Increase estimated expenditures in Communities for Healthy Kids Account 15313-5161.001 by $6,100. 5. Authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute any contract documents, change orders, or amendments arising out of this program, subject to City Attorney's approval. BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarita has been approved as a Level 2 Communities for Healthy Kids (CHK) community by the Institute of Local Government. With this designation, the City, through the Newhall Community Center, will receive organizational and technical assistance from CHK staff, as well as $6,100 in funding for materials and outreach efforts. The program will target low -to -moderate income families in Santa Clarita who do not have health insurance and help connect them to available, affordable health coverage for their children. CHK is a program of the Institute for Local Government, the League of California Cities' nonprofit arm. It is the outcome of research conducted by the League's Community Services 1h Gov, E D� Policy Committee, whose members include Councilmember Marsha McLean and Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Director Rick Gould. CHK is a cooperative project between the League, the California Teachers Association, and the California Association of Health Plans, with funding from the Wellpoint Foundation. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. Decline CHK designation and funding. 2. Other direction as determined by City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The total cost of this program is $6,100, to be offset completely by Communities for Healthy Kids funds.
