POWER CONTRACT RENEWAL 06-00202-B WITH
ADVANTAGE PRODUCTIONS
Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council approve Contract 06-00202-B renewal with Advantage Productions in the
amount of $51,333.83 for 2008 Concerts in the Park stage, truss, sound, and power.
2. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney
approval.
BACKGROUND
This year marks the 19th annual Concerts in the Park series. The Concerts in the Park began in
1989 for neighborhood residents to enjoy an evening at their local parks. For the first 13 years
the event was located at different parks throughout the summer, including Canyon Country Park,
Newhall Park, Santa Clarita Park, and Valencia Meadows Park.
In 2004, with the attendance growing each year, the Concerts in the Park moved permanently to
Central Park on Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Central Park offers ample parking and a
centralized location in the City, making it an ideal location. The park also includes field lights, a
feature that many appreciate when returning to their cars after the shows.
The services covered in this contract were competitively bid in June 2006 to ensure the City
received the best value. Advantage Productions was selected as the lowest responsive and
responsible bidder and has performed well each year. With the continued growth of the Concerts
and with'the CPI increase that is allowed as part of our contract renewal with Advantage
IMEN
Productions, this year's contract for the stage, truss, sound, and power exceeds the $50,000
threshold for the first time. These elements represent a significant portion of the entire Concerts
budget and are the essential logistical components that allow the Concerts to be held successfully
throughout the summer.
The Concerts in the Park 8 -week series is a free event, held beginning on the first Saturday after
the Fourth of July Celebration. The concerts have become a staple in Santa Clarita, attracting
residents of all ages. Various artists from all over have performed at Concerts in the Park along
with local bands from Santa Clarita. Concerts encourage residents to come and enjoy the park
and the music with family and friends.
