HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-10-14 - AGENDA REPORTS - HISTORIC PRESERVATION (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: Agenda Item: V CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: October 14, 2008 AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION CONSULTING SERVICES Community Development RECOMMENDED ACTION Award a contract for historic preservation consulting services to Historic Resources Group in the amount of $42,550. 2. Appropriate $42,550 from the Redevelopment Agency Fund Balance to Expenditure Account 13400-5161.002 for this project. 3. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND At the September 9, 2008 meeting, the City Council adopted temporary measures to protect identified and potential historic resources in the City. The City Council also directed staff to begin the next phase of the historic preservation project to include: a historic survey of properties, a records research of properties Citywide, and to draft a historic preservation ordinance. Staff prepared a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Historic Preservation Consulting Services and distributed the RFP to twenty-five firms with expertise in the field of historic preservation. Five qualified firms that include Architectural Resources Group (Pasadena), Arroyo Resources (Los Angeles), Christopher A. Joseph and Associates (Los Angeles), Historic Resources Group (Hollywood), and TBA West, Inc. (Daly City) submitted responses to the RFP. The top qualified firms were invited for interviews with staff. During those interviews firms were APPROVED CA 4-o 2e L,ta1'Iymoi1deP evaluated based on their expertise, timeline for completion of the project, previous and relevant work experience and cost. Staff has selected and recommends the Historic Resources Group, based on their responsiveness to the Request for Proposal, extensive experience with historic preservation and surveys, and competitive fee schedule for services. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Funds in the amount of $42,550 will be appropriated from the Redevelopment Agency Fund Balance into expenditure account 13400-5161.002 for this project.
