BACKGROUND City Council Policy I-14 provides for the canceling of City Council meetings during municipal election years, as well as the annual Council summer and holiday recesses. No provision is currently included with regard to State or Federal holidays. This year, the Veteran's Day holiday falls on Tuesday, November 11. The attached policy amendment provides for the cancellation of Council meetings on State or Federal holidays. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other direction as determined by Council. ATTACHMENTS Proposed amended Policy I-14 APPROVED CITY OF SANTA CLARITA NUMBER I-14.1 ORIGINAL ISSUE I EFFECTIVE 12/11/07 POLICY/PROCEDURE SUBJECT CITY COUNCIL ELECTION, SUMMER AND HOLIDAY RECESS CURRENT ISSUE EFFECTIVE 06/10/08 CATEGORY SUPERSEDES I-14 LEGISLATIVE RELATIONS RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT: ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES STANDARD MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE PURPOSE The City of Santa Clarita has developed the following policy in an effort to establish the City Council's long- standing practice of holding a summer and a holiday recess during the regular Council meeting schedule and further to not hold a City Council meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of April of each even -numbered year due to the City's election for members of the City Council. Also on occasion, State and Federal holidays fall on a regular Council meeting day and this policy provides for the cancellation of those meetings. POLICY It is the declared policy of the City Council to not hold a City Council meeting on the following days: • The 2nd Tuesday of April in each even -numbered year; • The 4`" Tuesday of July in each calendar year; • The 1" Tuesday of August in each calendar year (study session); • The 2nd Tuesday of August in each calendar year; • The 4`'' Tuesday of December in each calendar year. • On any State or Federal holiday which falls on the 2nd or 4"' Tuesday of any month.
