RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF A
MULTIWAY STOP CONTROL FOR THE INTERSECTION OF
VALLEY STREET AND 8TH STREET
Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the installation of a multiway stop control for the
intersection of Valley Street and 8th Street.
BACKGROUND
Staff received requests from area residents to investigate the possibility of installing a multiway
stop control at the intersection of Valley Street and 8th Street. Residents have indicated that
heavy traffic movement on Valley Street has generated vehicle back up along 8th Street,
particularly during the morning and afternoon peak periods.
The intersection is a four -legged intersection in a residential neighborhood. Staff conducted a
multiway stop analysis at the intersection, which included the evaluation of vehicular and
pedestrian volumes, collision history, and sight visibility. The analysis determined the
intersection did meet the minimum volume warrants for the installation of multiway stop controls
at the intersection of the two residential streets.
The installation of the multiway stop control at Valley Street and 8th Street will improve traffic
circulation. It will also be one of many improvements staff has implemented in this neighborhood
to help reduce traffic concerns of area residents. Other improvements have included additional
speed limit signs and pavement markings, placement of a public awareness radar and educational
trailer unit, and increased traffic enforcement.
Adopted: 2es9a
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS

FISCAL IMPA
Installation of a multiway stop control is estimated at $1,000. Adequate funds are available in the
Striping and Signing Maintenance Account 14504-5111.010.
