BACKGROUND U.S. consumers use 100 billion plastic bags annually. Residents of the City of Santa Clarita alone use and dispose of approximately 2,600 tons of plastic bags each year. Many of the plastic bags that are not sent to the landfill or recycled end up polluting the City's roadways, storm drains, and riparian environment. The bags distributed were made from recycled plastic bottles. • Press release in support of the Los Angeles County "Day Without a Bag" Program • Pride Week Community Cleanup Event -j Adopted: Felo, OR-// In addition to continuing the above mentioned programs, staff will continue to seek more opportunities to create and participate in new programs, including working with Los Angeles County staff to participate in future events promoting reusable, bags and researching funding opportunities in the form of grants to cover the costs associated with promotion opportunities.
