TO INCREASE QUANTITY OF TREE DATA COLLECTION Public Works RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council approve the amendment to Contract 08-00026 with ArborPro Inc. for tree inventory data collection in the amount of $70,500, not to exceed the new total contract price of $120,450. 2. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND The City's tree inventory now includes an estimated 80,000 trees. The tree inventory has increased from the City's incorporation due to new parks, facilities, tract developments, annexations, improvements to medians, and continued tree plantings that are conducted citywide. Of these 80,000 trees, 53,000 are maintained by the Urban Forestry Division, and 27,000 are maintained by the Landscape Maintenance District. Earlier this year, the City entered into a contract with ArborPro Inc. for tree data collection services. Certified arborists using a Global Position Satellite (GPS) system will collect data on approximately 34,000 trees. In addition to obtaining accurate information on tree locations, data obtained through this system will give staff access to thorough information on species, size, condition, and other relevant data on each of the 34,000 trees. A current and accurate computerized tree inventory will allow for comprehensive analysis of tree maintenance needs, strategic planning, budget projections, efficient customer service, and time savings for staff. APPROVED Subsequent to the original contract award to ArborPro, the City was awarded a grant in the amount of $63,000, which was previously appropriated. Matching funds in the amount of $7,500 have been identified, bringing the funding for the additional work to $70,500 for the contract. With the additional funding in the amount of $70,500 plus the original contract award for tree inventory, the total contract amount is $120,450. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Funds for the additional tree inventory data collection totaling $70,500 are available in the following accounts: $2,500 in Account 12517-5161.005; $2,500 in Account 12520-5161.005; and $2,500 in Account 12521-5161.005.
