pursuant to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
For approximately 18 years, the City of Santa Clarita has provided funds for community
organizations through the Community Services Grant Program. Each year, a Community
Services Grant Committee is assembled to determine funding categories, review and rate
applications, and make final funding recommendations. This year's grant selection committee
included Councilmember Bob Kellar, Councilmember Laurene Weste, Patrick Bryant, Adele
Macpherson, Phil Lantis, Carmen Magana, and Terasa Sullivan. In the past, funding has been
used to provide programs in the Arts, Violence Prevention, Drug and Alcohol Prevention, and
Educational programs addressing the Environment, Traffic, Tolerance, and Wellness.
This year's funding categories are:
• Community Benefit
• Cultural Arts
Thirty-two grant applications were received, with requests totaling $219,078.33. The breakdown
per category is as follows:
Community Benefit: 25 applications, totaling $167,648.33
Cultural Arts: 7 applications, totaling $51,430.00
This year's Community Services Grant program is proposed to fund 16 grant applications. The
maximum amount for funding each application is $7,500.00 (see Attachment A).
The City of Santa Clarita provided an opportunity for applicants to meet and network in
preparation for writing grants.
