HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-01-27 - AGENDA REPORTS - CMTY SERVICES GRANT PGM (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT Agenda Item: 13 CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: January 27, 2009 Adele Macpherson COMMUNITY SERVICES GRANT PROGRAM - PROJECT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2008-09 Parks, Recreation, and Community Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council approve Community Services Grant Committee's Project Recommendation List for Fiscal Year 2008-09, in an amount not to exceed $100,000, and direct staff to execute agreements approved for funding. Authorize City Manager, or designee, to sign all documents pursuant to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND For approximately 18 years, the City of Santa Clarita has provided funds for community organizations through the Community Services Grant Program. Each year, a Community Services Grant Committee is assembled to determine funding categories, review and rate applications, and make final funding recommendations. This year's grant selection committee included Councilmember Bob Kellar, Councilmember Laurene Weste, Patrick Bryant, Adele Macpherson, Phil Lantis, Carmen Magana, and Terasa Sullivan. In the past, funding has been used to provide programs in the Arts, Violence Prevention, Drug and Alcohol Prevention, and Educational programs addressing the Environment, Traffic, Tolerance, and Wellness. This year's funding categories are: • Community Benefit • Cultural Arts Thirty-two grant applications were received, with requests totaling $219,078.33. The breakdown per category is as follows: Community Benefit: 25 applications, totaling $167,648.33 Cultural Arts: 7 applications, totaling $51,430.00 This year's Community Services Grant program is proposed to fund 16 grant applications. The maximum amount for funding each application is $7,500.00 (see Attachment A). The City of Santa Clarita provided an opportunity for applicants to meet and network in preparation for writing grants. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS City Council not approve Community Services Grant Funding. Other action as determined by City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Funds in the amount of $100,000 have been budgeted, and are available in the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department Account 15300.5171.001.
