REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST
AND CONVICTION OF THE PERSONS RESPONSIBLE FOR
THE ASSAULT OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S
DEPARTMENT DEPUTY ANTHONY HAWKINS
City Manager's Office
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to offer a reward in the amount of
$10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the
assault of Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department Deputy Anthony Hawkins.
BACKGROUND
On Wednesday, November 11, 2009, an assault of Deputy Anthony Hawkins occurred following
a traffic stop of two men occupying a white, Nissan Titan near the 21000 block of Golden
Triangle Road.
During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle claimed he did not have a driver's license or
identification. Deputy Hawkins subsequently ordered the man to exit the vehicle. A short time
later, the suspect forcefully attacked Deputy Hawkins and attempted to flee. While Deputy
Hawkins was on the ground trying to maintain control of the man, a second suspect exited the
passenger side of the vehicle and joined in the attack.
Following the assault, the two men returned to the vehicle and fled the area. Detectives have
since determined the suspects to have used stolen and fraudulent debit cards to purchase items at
local retail establishments, including the Canyon Country Wal-Mart, just prior to the attack on
Deputy Hawkins. Additional debit card charges were believed to have been made in Studio City,
Sunland, Burbank, and Sun Valley.
