Home My WebLink About2010-11-23 - AGENDA REPORTS - APPT NEWHALL REDEV COMMITTEE (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: Agenda Item: CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval Item to be presented by: November 23, 2010 Councilmembers Kell and Weste APPOINTMENT OF NEWHALL REDEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS Community Development RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council and Redevelopment Agency appoint three (3) Newhall Redevelopment Committee Members to serve 4 year terms each to begin January, 2011 and expire January, 2015. BACKGROUND At the joint regular meeting of May 11, 2010, the City Council and Redevelopment Agency declared vacancies and directed the City Clerk/Agency Secretary to post and publish the Notice of Vacancy for six (6) vacancies on the Newhall Redevelopment Committee. The deadline for receipt of applications was June 18, 2010, at which time the City Clerk/Agency Secretary submitted copies of the applications received to the City Council. At that time, six (6) applications were received for the Newhall Redevelopment Committee. At the joint regular meeting of July 13, 2010, the City Council and Redevelopment Agency directed the City Clerk/Agency Secretary to extend the application period and republish the Notice of Vacancy with August 6, 2010, as the new deadline. Staff was also directed to review the Newhall Redevelopment Committee in context of the Agency's current redevelopment efforts. As of the extended deadline, no additional applications were received. There are currently six (6) at -large positions of the Newhall Redevelopment Committee held by the following members which are due to expire January 2011: Victor Feany, Duane Harte, Carol Rock, Robert Spierer, Randal G. Winter, and Leon Worden. Three current members did not AaPRouEo, apply for re -appointment but expressed their desire to continue serving on specific subcommittees which is allowed by .the Newhall Redevelopment Committee Norms. The City Council Economic Development/Redevelopment Subcommittee met on November 4, 2010 to review the applications and supporting letters of recommendation. Staff also provided the Subcommittee an assessment of the overall structure and organization of the Newhall Redevelopment Committee as directed by the City Council. The Sub -Committee recommends the attached slate of three (3) nominees (Attachment A) for appointment to serve on the Newhall Redevelopment Committee. This will reduce the current Committee membership from 13 to 10. Appointments to the Newhall Redevelopment Committee will be seated at the first meeting of 2011. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as directed by the City Council/Redevelopment Agency. FISCAL IMPACT None by this action.
