ACCEPTANCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council accept the completion of the Asphalt Roadway Rehabilitation Project
Phase I and II, Projects M0072 and M0073, Federal -Aid Projects ESPL-5450 (48 and 50).
2. Direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion.
3. Direct staff to release the remaining retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is
recorded, provided no stop notices have been filed, as provided by law.
BACKGROUND
The Roadway Asphalt Rehabilitation Project Phase I and II was federally funded by the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This project was added to augment the City's
pavement management program and to help stimulate the local economy.
Based on the City's annual evaluation of its pavement condition, two major arterial streets were
identified for asphalt overlay treatment to provide a smoother ride for traffic, enhance the
appearance of the roadway, and extend the life of the roadway for a minimum of 15 years. The
treatment included pavement preparation and dig outs, followed by asphalt rubberized hot -mix
overlay on the streets. The limits of the streets improved included portions of Soledad Canyon
Road (east of Sierra Highway) and McBean Parkway between Decoro Drive and Newhall Ranch
Road.
The City Council awarded the construction contract to Sully -Miller Contracting Company. This
project was completed within budget to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on April 26, 2010.

NOTICE OF COMPLETION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN:
The City of Santa Clarita, a municipal corporation, is the owner in fee, except for the right-of-way
upon which it has been constructed, of a certain public improvement known as the Asphalt Roadway
Rehabilitation Project Phase I and II, Projects M0072 and M0073, Federal -Aid Projects ESPL-5450
(48 and 50).
2. The City's address is 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 300, Santa Clarita, California 91355.
3. The general locations of said public improvements are Soledad Canyon Road in the Canyon Country
area and McBean Parkway in the Valencia area, within the City.
4. A contract to construct said public improvement was awarded to Sully -Miller Contracting Company,
1100 E. Orangethorpe Avenue, Suite 200, Anaheim, California 92801.
5. Work under said contract was completed on April 26, 2010, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer,
and was accepted by the City on July 13, 2010.
