BACKGROUND: In July, 2009, the City of Santa Clarita launched a new website, www.greensantaclarita.com. The website has several goals including: . 1. Making going green convenient for the entire community: Currently, dozens of organizations and public agencies provide an overwhelming amount of information about going green. Accessing this information requires visiting a number of separate websites and viewing hundreds of individual web pages. The City's green website organizes this information in one convenient location which will allow community members to access the information more easily; 2. Boosting the local green economy: The City's green website provides information on green products and services offered within the Santa Clarita Valley. - The online "Green Store" can assist in finding an environmentally friendly vehicle, Energy Star rated products, and solar installers in the Santa Clarita Valley; 3. Saving residents and businesses money: In addition to boosting the local green economy, the site is dedicated to helping residents and businesses find ways to save money by going green. The site offers an extensive list of programs including Federal Stimulus Package funds, tax credits, rebate programs on green products (including the Federal "Cash for Clunkers" program for appliances), and programs offered by Southern California Edison that will help reduce utility bills; and 4. Enhancing community involvement: The site includes an extensive community calendar that advertises local events, professional trainings as well as classes offered by College of the Canyons that focus on environmental issues. Since going live, the site has received nearly 8,000 hits from users in 43 countries around the world. Content is constantly being added to the site. Upcoming projects include highlighting green development projects around the Santa Clarita Valley and the production of brief video pieces focusing on local businesses that offer green products and services.
