SOLEDAD CANYON AND WILEY CANYON MEDIAN
IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT B 1007 — PROJECT ACCEPTANCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council accept the completion of the Soledad Canyon and Wiley Canyon Median
Improvements, Project B1007.
2. Direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion.
3. Direct staff to release the 10 percent retention balance 35 days after the Notice of Completion
is recorded, provided no stop notices have been filed, as provided by law.
BACKGROUND
On June 9, 2009, the City Council awarded a contract to Belaire-West Landscape, Inc., for
Soledad Canyon and Wiley Canyon Median Improvements project. Construction began on
August 4, 2009. The median improvement project includes two different projects areas: Project
Area 1 is located on Wiley Canyon Road between Orchard Village Road and Lyons Avenue;
Project Area 2 is located on Soledad Canyon Road and includes the four medians just east of
Bouquet Canyon Road. The purpose of this project was to replace antiquated irrigation systems
that were over 30 years old, install paved maintenance strips to provide maintenance workers a
safety buffer between traffic and the landscaped area, and plant shrubbery that requires less water
and also meets current City standards.
This project was funded by Landscape Maintenance District Major Thoroughfare Medians Zone
2008-1. The construction was substantially completed on November 9, 2009, and was within
budget to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. In accordance with contract documents, the
contractor will provide maintenance of the landscaped areas through February 14, 2010.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact created by the approval of the recommended action. Adequate funds
were budgeted in Account 81007357-5161.001.

NOTICE OF COMPLETION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN:
The City of Santa Clarita, a municipal corporation, is the owner in fee, except for the right-of-way
upon which it has been constructed, of a certain public improvement known as Soledad Canyon and
Wiley Canyon Median Improvements, Project B1007.
2. The City's address is 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 300, Santa Clarita, California 91355-2196.
The general locations of said public improvements are the first four medians on Soledad Canyon Road
that are immediately east of Bouquet Canyon Road and all medians on Wiley Canyon Road between
Orchard Village Road and Lyons Avenue.
4. On June 9, 2009, a contract to construct said public improvement was awarded to Belaire-West,
Landscape,lnc.
Work under said contract was completed on November 6, 2009, to the satisfaction of the City
Engineer, and was accepted by the City on January 26, 2010.
