AUTHORIZE THE PURCHASE OF STREET NAME SIGNS
FROM SAFEWAY SIGN COMPANY - OVERHEAD SIGN

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council authorize the purchase of 111 street name signs from Safeway Sign Company in
the amount of $85,610, plus a 10 percent contingency of $8,561, for a total contract amount
of $94,171.
2. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney
approval.
BACKGROUND
As part of an overall effort to capitalize on the positive image of the City of Santa Clarita, the
City Council requested staff to design a new street name sign for City intersections. Staff from
several departments worked together to design an aesthetically pleasing street name sign as a
means to uniquely identify the street name and the City of Santa Clarita. This design is also
consistent with the City's Beautification Plan.
As of December 18, 2008, the City purchased 383 street name signs and installed them at 113
signalized intersections throughout the City. The purchase of 111 street name signs will allow the
remaining sign installations to be completed.
In November 2006, a competitive bid process was completed for the overhead signs. The City
Council awarded a procurement contract to Safeway Sign Company on December 12, 2006. Staff
recommends the City Council exercise the City's renewal option to the existing contract with
APPROWED
Safeway Sign Company to provide 111 overhead street name signs at 33 intersections to
complete the overhead sign project.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funds in the amount of $94,171 for this project are budgeted in Account C0029354-5161.001.
