City Council.Study Session
September 7, 2010
Call to Order: 5:33 p.m.
Roll Call: All Councilmembers were present with the exception of Councilmember
Ender.
Flag Salute: Councilmember Kellar led the flag salute.
ITEM 1 CALIFORNIA HIGH SPEED RAIL AUTHORITY — Ken Pulskamp, City
Manager, made opening and explanatory remarks; and introduced Valerie Martinez
and Daniel Tempelis, representatives from the California High Speed Rail Authority
who presented background on the Authority as well as an update regarding the Los
Angeles to Palmdale segment of the proposed California High Speed Train.
Council questions, concerns and comments included: inquiry regarding earthquake
and seismic effects on the train system; inquiry regarding the San Fernando Valley
stop; the size of the train and compensation for property owners; cost approximations
for transit; comments regarding construction and the cost of construction of the High
Speed Rail; noise issues; infrastructure requirements; and the use of Mag Lev
technology.
Addressing the Council was Berta Gonzales -Harper.
