BACKGROUND On January 17, 2011, the City was informed that Curbside, Inc., was purchased by Waste Management and will be operating under the new name WM Curbside, LLC.. Per the direction of the City Attorney, an Assignment Agreement must be executed by the City, Curbside, Inc., and WM Curbside, LLC so that service to our residents can continue without interruption. The execution of the Assignment Agreement will not change the cost of the contract to the City. To date, the agreement has been executed by both Curbside, Inc., and WM Curbside, LLC. Since 1995, Curbside, Inc., has been partnering with the City to provide used oil and HHW door-to-door collections. The program is offered as a free service to City residents as a safe and convenient means to properly dispose of used motor oil and HHW materials such as paint, car batteries, and other common household chemicals. The Door -to -Door Collection program continues to be the most convenient and successful option for disposing of HHW. Other than the Door -to -Door Collection program, residents have only two options to properly dispose of HHW. Residents can either transport their materials to a permitted collection facility in Sun Valley or the Antelope Valley or wait for Los Angeles County Public Works Department to host the annual one -day collection event. The current contract with Curbside, Inc., was approved by City Council on October 24, 2006. The term of the agreement was for one year with the option to extend services for up to four additional years. The current contract is set to expire on November 30, 2011. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact with this action. The cost associated with this- contract is budgeted each fiscal year using the Stormwater Utility Fund and the Used Oil and Filter Recycling Grant. 19
