City Council accept the completion of the Magic Mountain Parkway/Interstate 5 Interchange Landscape Beautification Phase II, Project S1003. 2. Direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion. 3. Authorize the appropriation of $57,443 from Landscape Maintenance District Fund Balance 357 to Expenditure Account S1003357-5161.001. 4. Direct staff to release the retention balance 35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop notices have been filed, as provided by law. 5. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND On May 25, 2010, the City Council awarded a contract to Marina Landscape, Inc., to construct the Magic Mountain Parkway/Interstate 5 (I-5) Interchange Landscape Beautification Phase II, Project 51003. Construction commenced on July 26, 2010, for the proposed work within the City's and County's jurisdictions on Magic Mountain Parkway and The Old Road. This project installed trees, shrubs, ground cover, and hardscape in the parkways and median islands on Magic Mountain Parkway 300 feet west of The Old Road to Tourney Road and The Old Road from Skyview Lane to 700 feet south of Shopping Center. In addition, 31 vine trellises i '3�� were installed on the retaining wall along Magic Mountain Parkway between the northbound off -ramp and Tourney Road.'A gateway entrance to the City was also created with the installation of a decorative monument wall featuring the City's logo on Magic Mountain Parkway by the northbound I-5 on—ramp. An appropriation of $57,443 from Landscape Maintenance District Fund Balance 357 is requested to provide for the non -reimbursable cost associated with the construction of the decorative gateway entry monument wall. Landscape Maintenance Districts have been established by both the City and County to pay for the maintenance of the landscape, irrigation services, and hardscape once the current maintenance contracts expire on April 4 and June 30, 2011, respectively. The construction of the Magic Mountain Parkway/I-5 Interchange Landscape Beautification Phase 11, Project 51003, was completed within the project budget to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on January 10, 2011. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The requested appropriation of $57,443 from Landscape Maintenance District Fund Balance 357, in addition to the funds currently budgeted, will provide for all project costs. The construction cost, including landscape maintenance, is $968,748.36, which is within the spending authority amount of $1,022,725. The City's address is 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 300, Santa Clarita, California 91355-2196. The general location of said public improvements is Magic Mountain Parkway 300 feet west of The Old Road to Tourney Road and The Old Road from Skyview Lane to 700 feet south of Shopping Center. 4. On May 25, 2010, a contract to construct said public improvement was awarded to Marina Landscape, Inc., 1900 S. Lewis Street, Anaheim, CA 92805-6621. Work under said contract was completed on January 10, 2011, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer, and was accepted by the City on February 22, 2011.
