RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council direct staff to submit grant applications to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan
Transportation Authority (Metro) by the January 28, 2011, deadline requesting an estimated
$7,540,000 in the 2011 Metro Call for Projects grant cycle..
BACKGROUND
In December 2010, the Metro Board approved the 2011 Call for Projects (Call) application
package. The Call is a competitive grant process typically held biennially that cofunds new
regionally significant capital transportation projects. The 2011 Call will be highly competitive,
with up to 88 cities and the County of Los Angeles seeking an estimated $100 million in
available funding for Fiscal Years 2016 and 2017.
The 2011 Call schedule is as follows:
• January 28, 2011 - Applications due to Metro
• February to May 2011 - Applications ranked by Metro staff
• July 2011 - Project and funding recommendations released to public
• September 2011 - Metro Board adopts Call recommendations
City staff met to discuss projects that would be good candidates for this funding opportunity.
Projects were selected based on need, project readiness, grant requirement fit, and budget, among
other considerations. Should any project not receive grant funding, staff will place the project on
the City's unfunded list for future consideration. Transit staff also evaluated potential projects for
the Call, but none met the selection requirements for the Call's funding period. The City has
prepared applications for the Call as outlined below.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no immediate fiscal impact from submitting the recommended grant applications. If
grant funds are awarded to a project, the required local match funds will need to be established.
Staff will return to the City Council with the appropriate budget information at that time.
Successful projects will be funded in Fiscal Years 2016 and 2017.
