RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF
MULTIWAY STOP CONTROLS FOR THE INTERSECTION OF
MAMMOTH LANE AND GRANDIFLORAS ROAD

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the installation of multiway stop controls for the
intersection of Mammoth Lane and Grandifloras Road.
.BACKGROUND
Staff received requests from area residents to install multiway stop controls at the intersection of
Mammoth Lane and Grandifloras Road. Residents indicated that it is difficult to see oncoming
vehicles on Mammoth Lane while making a left turn onto Grandifloras Road due to the
roadway's horizontal curvature and on -street parking.
Mammoth Lane is a curving residential street with a 7 percent grade. Grandifloras Road is a
residential street that terminates for eastbound traffic at Mammoth Lane. This intersection is
currently controlled with one stop sign on the terminating leg.
Staff conducted a multiway stop analysis at the intersection, which included the evaluation of
vehicular and pedestrian volumes, collision history, and visibility. A site study confirmed that
northbound Mammoth Lane motorists wanting to turn left onto Grandifloras Road may have a
difficult time seeing oncoming traffic to safely negotiate the turn. The installation of signs and
pavement markings will improve safety and operations at the intersection by giving motorists a
clear view of conflicting traffic. Traffic on both Mammoth Lane and Grandifloras Road shall be
required to stop before entering the intersection.

Adjacent residents have been contacted and support staffs recommendation to install multiway
stop controls at the intersection of Mammoth Lane and Grandifloras Road.

FISCAL IMPACT
The installation of the multiway stop controls is estimated at $1,000. Adequate funds are
available in the Street Maintenance Striping Account 14504-5111.010.

RESOLUTION II-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING
THE INSTALLATION OF MULTIWAY STOP CONTROLS FOR THE
INTERSECTION OF MAMMOTH LANE AND
GRANDIFLORAS ROAD
WHEREAS, Section 21354 of the California Vehicle Code allows local authorities
to designate any intersection under their exclusive jurisdiction as a stop control intersection; and
WHEREAS, traffic operation and safety at the intersection of Mammoth Lane and
Grandifloras Road will benefit from the installation of a multiway stop control.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita does hereby
resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That the intersection of Mammoth Lane and Grandifloras Road be
designated as a multiway stop control intersection. Traffic on both Mammoth Lane and
Grandifloras Road shall be required to stop before entering the intersection.
SECTION 2. That the stop control, as provided herein, shall apply when appropriate
signs and pavement markings, giving adequate notice thereof, have been placed as described in
Section 1.
SECTION 3. That staff shall install the necessary signs and pavement markings to
affect this resolution.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
