Item to be presented by: Rick Gould
DATE: February 28, 2012
SUBJECT: ARTS GRANTS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FISCAL YEAR
2011-12
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council approve Arts Commission recommendations for Arts for Fiscal Year 2011-12, in
an amount not to exceed $48,000.
2. Direct staff to execute agreements approved for funding.
3. Authorize City Manager, or designee, to sign all documents pursuant to City Attorney
approval.
BACKGROUND
The 2011-12 Arts Grants applications were released to the community on September 19, 2011.
Nine applications were received, with six of the applications submitted under the City of Santa
Clarita Presents category, which underwrites the rental costs for organizations utilizing the Santa
Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, and three under the Community Arts
category, which supports community arts programming and events not occurring at the
Performing Arts Center.
The applications were shared with the individual Arts Commissioners, along with rating sheets
that included a scoring system from 0 -to -100. The rating sheets were turned in to the Arts and
Events Office and the scores were tabulated by staff, who calculated the average scores.
At the January 15, 2012, Arts Commission meeting, the Arts Commission approved the
recommendations for funding. They recommended four organizations be fully funded through
the City of Santa Clarita Presents grant program, and three organizations to be fully funded
through the Community Arts grant program. One additional organization was recommended to
be partially funded through the City of Santa Clarita Presents grant program (see Attachment A
for a list of proposed projects and agencies).
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
1. City Council decline Arts Grants funding.
2. Other actions as determined by City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds in the amount of $48,000 have been budgeted and are available in the Parks, Recreation,
and Community Services Department account 15300-5171.001.
