PROJECT B4007 - PROJECT ACCEPTANCE
Public Works
RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. City Council accept the completion of the Bouquet Canyon Road Median Improvements,
Project B4007.
2. Direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion.
3. Direct staff to release the remaining retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is

BACKGROUND
On August 23, 2011, the City Council awarded a construction contract to R. C. Becker & Son,
Inc., for the Bouquet Canyon Road Median Improvements project.
Located on Bouquet Canyon Road from Plum Canyon Road to Urbandale Avenue, this median
landscape project replaced striped pavement medians and raised asphalt medians with irrigated,
landscaped medians. This project employs the City's successful water management technology
and best management practice, including plant selection.
This Bouquet Canyon Road segment was chosen to bring the look and benefits of
well-maintained medians located throughout the City to the Saugus community and enhance the
Bouquet Canyon Road gateway into the City. This project is part of the City's adopted Capital
Improvement Program and helps the City accomplish its beautification efforts of all major
roadways through landscaped medians.
Certified and compliant with Assembly Bill 1881 (the state law regarding water efficiency) the
design invests in high-quality landscaping projects within the public right-of-way, helping to
keep the City on water management's cutting edge.
The construction contract and three-month maintenance period were completed within budget to
the satisfaction of the City Engineer on March 22, 2012.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The project was funded with Landscape Maintenance District funds (Fund 357), Zone 2008-1
Major Medians. The project budget adequately provided for all project costs including
construction management, inspection, and administration. The final contract cost for R. C.
Becker & Son, Inc., is $660,901, which is within the original City Council authorized contract
spending authority of $737,800, approved at the time of contract award at the August 23, 2011,
City Council meeting.
