HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-10-23 - RESOLUTIONS - TRAFFIC SURVEY SPEED LIMITS (2)1 RESOLUTION 12-69 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ON 201 HIGHWAY SEGMENTS WHEREAS, the California Vehicle Code (Sections 22357 and 22358) permits local authorities, upon the basis of an engineering and traffic survey, to establish prima facie speed limits on highways within their jurisdiction; and WHEREAS, Section 40802 of the California Vehicle Code requires speed limits be justified by an engineering and traffic survey within five, seven, or ten years, depending on certain qualifications, to use radar/laser enforcement; and WHEREAS, the effective and efficient use of radar/laser for traffic speed enforcement can enhance highway safety within the City. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita does hereby resolve as follows: SECTION 1. That prima facie speed limits shall be established on 201 highway segments in the 2012 Engineering and Traffic Survey Study (Study). SECTION 2. That the City Clerk certify the Study and make copies available to the local Sheriffs Department and courts. SECTION 3. That City staff make the necessary signing changes to implement the provisions of the Study. SECTION 4. That the Sheriffs Department conduct appropriate enforcement of the prima facie speed limits established by this resolution. SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
