BACKGROUND During the last several years, demand for senior programming at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center (Senior Center) has increased. The increased demand has impacted many programs, and funding shortfalls have hindered the Senior Center's food and nutrition programs, both home delivered and congregate meals. At the request of the City Council, this item has been brought forward for consideration. Senior Center administrative staff reports that the food and nutrition programs do not have enough funding to meet the current demand, as the Senior Center now provides an additional 80 meals per day that are beyond the scope of the food and nutrition budget. Without additional funding, the Senior Center will be unable to provide meals to local seniors through the end of this fiscal year. The Senior Center has approached both the City of Santa Clarita and the County of Los Angeles and made both agencies aware of the funding shortfall. Each entity has been asked for an appropriation of $29,240. Supervisor Antonovich's staff has indicated that the Fifth District intends to fund this proposal in the amount of $29,240. Should this request be funded by both the City and the County, the Senior Center will be able to provide meals to all eligible seniors re" lr?,U ,o through the end of the fiscal year. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Sufficient funds are available in the City Council contingency account 19300-5401.001 to meet the Senior Center's request. a
